Acute Respiratory Infection Hubs
To support primary care and the wider health system manage demand of acute respiratory infections (ARI) during winter 2022, over 350 ARI hubs were set up at pace across England with over 200,000 additional appointments delivered in December and January 2023. This integrated approach and flexible model responds to local demand by providing an alternative service with adults and children streamlined to the hubs for assessment. Establishment of the hubs has resulted in a direct patient benefit, particularly for the paediatric population and their families, being able to access same day care, treatment where required along with advice, guidance and reassurance. In this session Dr Kiren Collison will outline the national learning from winter 2022/23 and an update on the plans for this winter. Dr Tehmina Rahman will talk about the set up and running of the ARI hub in Sandwell and the impact that this had on staff and patients.
